Is Tik-Tok a valuable news source?
Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

With Tik-Tok becoming the new social media sensation companies are looking to hire teenagers to spread news on the platform. In my opinion, this is to quick in the development of the platform as it is seen as the place to post funny videos with a catchy song. Tik-Tok shouldn’t be considered a valuable source at this point because of the lack of reputable information available on the platform. This platform could become reputable like twitter if the app began putting verified journalists in their own space like snapchat has attempted to do. By using teenagers it challenges most aspects of journalism by using unqualified and untested people to explain the news to their generation. It would to most adults not seem to be actual news, but to the younger generation that is mostly using Tik-Tok it would easily pass as news. https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-demographics-of-Tik-Tok-app-users The answer posed by Elliot Pearson shows that there is a shocking about millennials and Gen Z on the platform which in my opinion seems false as the majority of videos seem to be posted by high-school and college students. If Buzzfeed was able to use teenagers and popular Tik-Tok stars it could open up a way to link stories previously written or allow the personality to summarize the news. Although that sounds like a great idea I personally believe that people watching Tik-Tok want to be entertained not told the news. All in all, Tik-Tok is still a platform on the rise and no one knows if the app could one day be a one stop shop to get all of your entertainment and news.
